Jamal Richardson has been a basketball skills development trainer in Nashville, TN for over 15
years. He grew up in Nashville and went onto play college ball at Auburn-University at
Montgomery. After his junior year, however, he fell out of love with basketball. He quit and
finished his degree in electrical & computer engineering at Tennessee State University.
Jamal felt really lost. His cousin Spencer, who is also a basketball trainer, kept pushing him to
start training. Finally, Jamal reluctantly said yes and together they started building the next
generation of Nashville basketball stars.
Through coaching and training, Jamal has been at the forefront of establishing an elite
basketball community in Nashville the past 15+ years.
He has trained NBA All Star, Darius Garland since he was in sixth grade and 2023 NBA #2 draft
pick, Brandon Miller since he was a sophomore in high school.
Jamal has also been training NBA veteran and the only HBCU alumni currently in the NBA,
Robert Covington, since he was in college.
He’s trained over 30 professional basketball players in the NBA, G League and overseas. The
past two years Jamal has coached the HBCU All Star game. He’s also helped Draymond Green
and Tom Izzo run Michigan State’s Spartan Dawg Grind Week since its inception in 2021. He
currently coaches Brentwood Academy’s (a private school in Nashville) 7th grade basketball
team and teams in Darius Garland’s local youth league.
He’s fallen in love with the purpose God has created for him: to serve others through basketball.
His mantra, “KPBLDG” (Keep Building) encourages others to be resilient and to put in the work
that’s required to become the best version of themselves.
